Get Ready for the Full "Worm Moon" of March 2023: What You Need To Know

Have you ever noticed how each month has a full moon with a special name? This is because different cultures worldwide have given names to these moons to keep track of the changing seasons and their associated activities. These traditional names are often inspired by seasonal activities or weather events that occur during that month.

Today, we'll explore what makes the Worm Moon unique and how you can celebrate nature's cycles!

What Is The Worm Moon?

The Worm Moon of March 2023 is a stunning full moon that will be visible in the night sky. It is also known as the Lenten Moon, Crow Moon, or Sap Moon, and it has been given its name due to the earthworms that wriggle out of the ground as the soil warms, and thaws up in springtime. This invites Robins, finches, and other birds to return and feed - a true sign of Spring!

The full moon in March will appear on March 7th and will reach its peak at 7:40 EST time. For those on the West Coast, this peak will occur just before midnight on March 8th. It will be a full moon in Virgo. This year, since March’s full Moon occurs before the spring equinox, it may be more accurate to refer to it as the Lenten Moon exclusively, however, I find “Worm  Moon” to be more catchy. This full moon's power enhances your efforts as you begin pursuing your goals and manifesting plans!

Rituals And How To Celebrate The Worm Moon

Time to clear away any symbols of the winter solstice and renew and recharge our altars with some symbols of the upcoming spring: snakes, butterflies, pastel/colorful flowers, rabbits/hares, or even garden tools! Your new altar should feel like both Spring and Easter have exploded onto its surface, welcoming energies emphasizing optimism, release, rebirth, and growth. March's Worm Moon is a special time for many around the world, as it signals the end of winter and the start of the warmer spring season. Wondering how else you can celebrate? We've got some more ideas for you!

One way to pay respect to the Worm Moon is by setting up an altar outside in its glow (which I strongly recommend). Bathe in its moonlight and express gratitude as you release that which no longer serves you and embrace the changes to come. This can be your own quiet corner to reflect upon its beauty, as well as create something meaningful neither you nor others will soon forget. Include artwork and items that are special to you, like pastel-colored crystals, flowers, and also feathers- whatever it takes for you to have a fulfilling ritual experience!

Another commonly practiced ritual involves lighting candles in honor of each element - Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit - which symbolize how these five interconnected elements form one complete unit. Focus on calling each one into your circle during your ceremony - imagine feeling its presence within your soul and surrounding landscape as a sign of pure joy. You may also want to incorporate incense burning too!

If these rituals don't resonate with you, then why not try creating something unique? For example, after finding a suitable place (perhaps by a lake or beach?), take some time out here just before sunset to meditate in preparation for the moonrise while focusing on any intentions you wish to manifest when it appears above you.

No matter how small or grandiose your celebration maybe remember that these moments are temporary but incredibly powerful, so make sure to soak up every second under this magnificent light!

Of course, if this isn’t possible, you don’t have to wait until the middle of the night to see the Worm Moon! Look for the bright moon as it rises on Monday evening (should be visible then)! If the weather is poor (raining) on either or both nights, you may have the opportunity to witness a phenomenon called a moonbow. A moonbow is pretty much what it sounds like and is like a rainbow but created by moonlight instead of sunlight. Moonbows usually only happen when the full Moon is fairly low, so consider searching for one shortly after sunset just when the sky is getting dark.
